Clinical hypnotherapy is the application of hypnosis, a practice that is 1000s of years old, to the improvement of mental health issues as well as mental roadblocks to success and happiness. It involves being guided into a relaxed state, where you are both conscious and alert, but where your subconscious or unconscious mind is more accessible to positive suggestions made by the therapist, so that you will experience less resistance to doing the things you want to do and being who you want to be. Science has demonstrated that when the human mind is relaxed in a trance-like state, such as every day just before falling asleep and just after waking, it is more open to suggestions which more successfully influence our behavior. The therapist develops the suggestions based on an interview with the client, where the client discloses goals they have which they have had a difficult time reaching, due to blocks they may or may not understand. The clinical hypnotherapist is ethically bound to only present suggestions that the client has requested. This is not in any way a "magical" process; however, it may seem that way, since often clients can make rapid progress towards achieving goals previously unreachable after only a few sessions of hypnotherapy.
Will I bark like a dog? Absolutely not...unless that is something you tell your therapist you want to do! Clinical hypnotherapy is very different than stage hypnosis, which involves gaining the agreement of people to follow suggestions of the hypnotist for pure entertainment. There is no "therapy" involved, and the suggestions come from the hypnotist, not from the participant. Moral and ethical boundaries are more likely to be ridden over in this scenario. Plus, the mind has a kind of cut-off switch, which normally will prevent you from doing things you really don't want to do, in case you ever receive a suggestion you didn't ask for and don't want.

I have recently completed certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and am now offering clinical hypnotherapy in combination with Holistic Psychotherapy and Transformational Life Coaching! I will also be soon offering it as a stand-alone option for those who just want to target rapid change of certain behaviors such as smoking, addictions, anxieties/phobias, weight loss, pain management, improving confidence and self-esteem, resolving conflicts with others, etc.
